Ya bitch needs an art break bc im getting angry about voices existing as i try to keep myself entertained. Today is NOT a god one for sinking into repetitive line work and that’s just about all i have on the table atm

SO! Im gunna do a little thinking about my little meow meows all fucked up by religion. Just a comparison for my sanity and interests. Pyroc is my baby i wrote him for the first time years ago. Five?????????? Whadda hell. Going on six.

ANYWAY john joined religion because of his trauma. His sister died and he felt lost. He was unmoored in this fishing village and looking for reason looking for hope. Hed had his heart broken and trying to make sense of tragedy on his own was totally beyond him. Thats why his interactions with riley in AA are SO good like. He knows that confusion and he knows the rhetoric that’s supposed to combat it. Only it dooesnt work for riley.

The same sort of thing happens for pyrc, only inverted. Loss urns him away from god and religion because its SO strong in his family and not only is he loosing trust in god, but his kin as well. He’s suspicious there’s mre they arent telling him, at the point of his fathers death. And he agrees to, on the surface, absolutely wholly throw himself in to being the second the family and the village need. But he’s keeping his treachery under wraps.

That’s one of the coolest things about father paul imo is like. That slow unraveling of what is. Frankly. An awful half assed plan, driven by fear and loneliness and desperation and dementia and love. Even VERY obvious things like. Taking down the newspaper photo of his young self ‘slip’ by him. I think, on some level, its DEEPLY intentional. He wants people to CHOOSE this. He wants people like bev. He wants people who see him and are in aw of him beating god. Of killing death. He wants to be worshiped and adored and for people to come to him willingly, no tragedy driving them to his arms.

Pyroc also wnats to be worshipped, but he ALSO wants to do the worshipping. He really longs for an element of almost????? But not quite??? Subjection?? He wants to be shown something and for a Great Voice to tell him, unquestioningly and unerringly that it is GOOD. Full stop. And then he wants to spend his life worshipping it. But this booko is an exploration of how….. no such thing exists. And more importantly no great voice exists either. There is nothing wholly good, nothing wholy evil. His lack of faith in himself once he becomes god is him starting to understand that as well. Thats on purpose baked into the lore. The starting point was ‘what if god was a position and in order to get promoted you had to be a murderer. No matter what’. He understands things are not wholly good, at that point. I onder how long it will be for him to realize they are not fully evil as well?

Bc pruitt does hm hm hm an interesting move. Where he takes something the narritve is very sure to communicate is EVIL no wiggle room just fact. Even if its driven by animal instinct its. Evil. jeno laughs and says its because she has a crush on him

uses magic for the dumbest things just because he can

he mastered the wingardium leviosa spell within a week because he couldn't be bothered getting up to get things

when he gets close to graduation, hes pretty much practicing simple wandless magic

once freaked out the first years because jaemin charmed a storm cloud to hang around him for an entire day

it flashed lightning when he got particularly annoyed, which was a lot because that cloud was annoying as shit

has a really old owl that literally looks evil but has called it something like “snuggles”

laughs when he unintentionally swoops too low and skims other students’ heads on mail day

I made a voltron sky high boku no hero academia AU! I’ll put all their powers and outfit designs notes under cut in case you can’t read my handwriting. Feel free to use these designs and idea, just credit me and either @ me or msg me that way I can see whatever you make. However, please ask before reposting the above artwork.

Okey lets start with all my long convoluted explanations.

Allura: 

Power: She can sense, drain, and replenish energy. I chose this cause she restores the Balmara’s energy, and her arc has a lot to do with “healing” (recovering from the death of her people). I didn’t want to give her a straight up healing quirk though, so I decided to have her be able to both heal and steal energy.

Outfit: Her outfit is pretty basic, I tried to mash her dress and wonder woman’s outfit and added a cape. She has a little tube thing with a button on it that, when pressed, turns it into a staff. She uses this to fight when she has to, but avoids actual physical conflict as much as possible. It attaches to her belt.

Other stuff: I designed so that she just graduated (around 17-18) and is a sidekick to a hero, but is planning to go solo soon due to overwhelming public support. She also interns at Altea Academy, the school she went to and that her father runs. 

Shiro:   

Power: He was born without a power, but after capture by the evil organization GALRA he was given an artificial quirk. He is now able to manipulate metal, and usually metal bends his arm into a weapon to fight.

Outfit: He has a mask that he usually wears, and of course the metal arm. His markings on his outfit don’t mean much, they’re more of a reference to voltron’s colors and look cool. The purple sleeve covering his non-robot arm is also more for style.

Other stuff: I’ve been playing around with a bunch of ideas for him. I think he should start off as a police investigator, he wants to help people and set a good example for his adopted brother Keith. He learns something he shouldn’t when investigating GALRA, and the GALRA capture him and use him as a test subject. After a person from the Blade of Marmora (a vigilante organization) saves him, I think he either joins the vigilantes, or becomes a librarian or smth at Altea Academy to hide from GALRA.

Lance:

Power: He has xray vision (or something that gives him good vision to see what others can’t). I also thought about giving him water/ice powers but I decided against that because it was too obvious and didn’t give me something to fill my sniper Lance cravings. Basically when he uses his power he gets a light blue sheen over his eyes and his pupil turns neon blue. When using them he can see vitals of other people, things far away, or just see a person’s body parts and internal organs.  

Outfit: He has a pair of pilot goggle that belonged to his late grandfather, he wears them for style, to protect his eyes, and to help keep others from realizing where hes looking.He has two handguns and a sniper rifle, he attaches them to his belt. He also has a bunch of pouches holding ammo. He has a breastplate under his jacket to help protect him, he did it to appease his worried mom. I like to think his mom and little sister helped design the outfit, while his dad and older siblings helped him make the guns.

Other stuff: He has a huge family, but was the first to develop a power. His family was ecstatic when he said he wanted to be a hero, and are very supportive. He just barely missed the cutoff for Altea Academy’s hero course, but is still in the general studies course and in the same class as Shay. Keith and him were in the same class at Garrison middle school, but didn’t get along. After Keith got into the hero course when he didn’t, the animosity grew even if he didn’t intend to take his frustrations out on him.

Hunk:

Power: He can reinforce other objects. He is a strong boi and helps others, so I thought more of a support skill would suit him. Of course, he can fuck up some bitches when he needs to, but usually he creates shields etc. using his power.

Outfit: He also has some pouches to hold stuff. To fight, usually he reinforces his gloves and throws some heavy punches.

Other Stuff: he also tried out and didn’t make it into the hero course. He took it much better than Lance though, and is an engineer in the support course. He and Lance are neighbors and childhood friends.

Edge Lord Keith:

Powers: He can manipulate flames. He can also make them, but it drains a bunch of his energy so he usually carries a lighter, and increases the flames intensity. After a few incidents, he started focusing his flames on either his blade or sword rather than let them needlessly burn everything.

Outfit: All his clothes are frayed, and he has a bunch of flame designs to match his birthmark.He has two sheaths: 1 carrying his katana, and the other carrying his blade. Very edgy.

Other Stuff: He is the adopted bro of Shiro. he has a flame birthmark. His mom was a vigilante in the blade of marmora, and gave him her proof of membership (the blade) before she was murdered by a double agent GALRA. He and Lance went to Garrison middle school together, they got into a bunch of stupid arguments, and Keith had a bit of an attitude, so they didn’t get along. Keith sorta regrets it and wants to apologize but he also thinks that would be p awkward so he’s conflicted. Shiro getting captured made him want to be a hero.

Pidge:

Power: She can combine items to make new stuff. Thats p much all there is too it. I chose it based off her episodes on the forest planet where she made stuff with that headband thing. 

Outfit. That screen goggle thing can show her possible item combinations and their results. Her breast plate has a battery powering that, the knobs don’t do anything yet, but shes planning on adding a speaker system to her outfit to rickroll her enemies. I didn’t draw her a weapon, but she can pretty much make a weapon whenever she needs one. Eventually she probably will get one similar to her weapon in the show.  

Other Stuff: She was always plannig on joing Altea Academy’s support class but decided to do the hero course test too cause why not. She did better than she thought, but didn’t get in. IDK whats going on with Matt, I think he was either captured along with Shiro, never left, or smth else.

Random Stuff:

Altea Academy is basically UA academy from BNHA

Lance, Pidge, and Hunk are all moved to hero course after shenanigans

Alfor is principal of Altea Academy

IDK how lions play in to this, I think it could be something like Lance, Keith, Pidge, and Hunk being designated “call when people attack” squad (aka Voltron).

Keith, Hunk, and Lance are 15-17, Pidge is a year or two younger than them (she was moved up a few grades). Shiro is around 5 years old than Keith, at least 18 to be police investigator.

All BOM members are vigilantes, most used to be GALRA

A vigilante killed Allura’s mom, she doesn’t trust them. 

GALRA are after something at Altea academy, a secret, Alfor’s head, a student’s quirk, idk theres a bunch of stuff there to want.

I tried to make Shiro’s mask look like a lions face but without details and stuff. Just imagine its a lion mask.

If you can’t tell, Keith is biracial (half asian, half white) and Shiro is Japanese. I suck at skin tones.

I think I might make this a fanfiction, but please feel free to use any of this stuff. Again, credit me. And please please please message me if you write or draw anything for this AU, I would seriously cry of joy if anyone drew something for this small little AU.

while kysro and ylais hold vast influence in their specific regions of the world, there ARE other, impartial deities outside of them. like, gods of the seasons. a god of harvest (spring), a god of protection (winter), a god of planning (autumn) and a god of celebration (summer). or something of that ilk. and many smaller regions within Kysro/Ylais aligned areas will worship these gods. most people around the world hold at least passing respect for these seasonal deities.

the important thing about the Seasonal Deities is that worshipping them DOESNT conflict with worship of Ylais or Kysro. Its widely accepted and even expected that you respect them at certain times. the start and ends of seasons are particular moments when most cultures have events. it varies, but they would share commonalities.

however, worship of Kysro AND Ylais is... a trickier business. they are compatible as deities, since they fall into the same pantheon. but its like..... yknow..... the two of them spend much of their myths at bitter war, blotting out the sky and raining fire on the innocent matches as they fight for dominance. they chill out SOMETIMES, but by and large, worship of the two deities will place you in opposition.

so when the Stolisi (Kysro-aligned) welcomed the Divinitians (Ylais-aligned), that was an interesting occurrence. straight up convinced their deities to maybe stop fighting for ONE second and just like....... do shit.

however, as time passed and the divinitians took control, worship of kysro was mostly suppressed in favour of ylais, much to the frustration of Kysro herself, and the delight of Ylais. and when the Empresses, far down the line, started trying to get involved in local cultures, it was selective. see, northern Divinice (and even Old Divinice, before it was overthrown) were strong believers in the gods of spring and autumn, due to their naval focus requiring good winds, good temperatures, planning, and of course, produce. that was their focus, generally. they included a little winter when they got to the Stolisian peninsula, but autumn and spring remained the keys. summer is, of course, a good fun time to have, yknow. but even though Divinice had a focus on autumn and spring, they were perfectly happy to celebrate summer and winter with the locals, and it was a good way of helping strengthen their ties with the north west especially. but the Ylais-centric Divinitians had difficulty celebrating their ‘rival’ god, Kysro. it felt wrong. and both sides agreed with that! they were ok, in theory, with the other not worshipping their god. however, theres a level of respect you EXPECT in this sorta shit.

so when you get down to Empress Yeong-Hui, who placed a lot of focus on the cultures of her disparate nations and bringing people together, and she adamantly refuses to participate in Kysro-centric rituals unless she can mention Ylais??? fucking anarchy. its disrespect. its a slap in the face. admittedly she never threatened to stop showing, but every time she showed, she’d say ‘ylais’ where locals said ‘kysro’, and it drove a huge wedge between her, the Stolisi, and the near west nation that would later become Stolisia’s strongest ally. it wasnt great.

its sorta akin to how Satanists and Christians cant really get along. on a person basis perhaps, but if their religion actually comes into it, the whole thing falls the hell apart. their beliefs, while stemming from the same ‘pantheon’, are incompatible.

or sorta like uhhhhh.... worshipping aphrodite AND artemis. thats not going to end well? just in general. thats not a great idea. same for ylais and kysro. it just doesnt go, yknow???

the season gods are cool though. theres also uh. at least one other deity, who rules the pantheon, and probably represents The Earth or something. like a broad, primordial thing. i do that concept a LOT, but i like the idea of a definitive Head of a godly pantheon. neither ylais nor kysro can lead, because the conflict between them just Keeps Going. their powers wax and wane as the day grows long and short. and the season are the same, ever changing and rotating control and prominence. so for a pantheon of Cycles, it makes sense to have a being that operates on an even LARGER cycle. centuries or millennia long, each new age.

in fact, OOOOOHHHHHHHHHH BITCH!!!! millennia!!! the founding of the Empire of Divinice coincides (with a margin of error) with 1000. therefore, its an approximately 1000 year cycle, where this earth god awakes from a deep slumber and disturbs the world. something fundamentally shifts. tectonic plates collide. kingdoms rise and fall. and it returns to sleep, satisfied. or something of that nature? maybe it operates on a sort of ‘king arthur’ logic, where it awakens whenever it is needed. idk. we’ll see???

also!!! theres one fun worldbuild-y thing thats important about ylais and kysro. myths, right? designed to describe natural phenomena by way of the supernatural.

there is a myth, broadly centered around the Stolisian Republic. VERY broadly. essentially the events of like 628 to 1256. on a broad ass scale.

for the Ylais-aligned, the myth goes that when Ylais’ faithful fled the eastern lands, Kysro took them in under the guise of sympathy. the faithful brought many wondorous things from the east and shared them with Kysro, who continued her ruse for centuries. however, it was a trap! for kysro had been planning al along to march her faithful on the new capital, razing it to the ground and wiping out a large center for ylais’ faithful. only through the cunning of the Empress Celeste II and her maidens was Divinice saved, and Kysro banished once again to the far reaches. But she hovers eternally along the border, spreading her black tendrils further, ever aiming for the glistening city of light, to choke out its light forever. PERHAPS in more vague words, but essentially so.

for the Kysro-aligned, the myth goes that when Ylais’ faithful fled the eastern lands, Kysro took them in from her genuine sympathy. but it was a trap! For with their arrival, they sought to drain the land of its resources and Kysro’s faithful of their lives. And for years, her people persevered, struggling against Ylais, until they snapped and took back their homeland and their faith, the land they had given to Ylais in good faith, faith that had been misplaced and abused. and so they claimed their homeland, but continued in their grace - they knew many were innocent of Ylais’ crimes. many had been born into that life with nowhere else to go. and so Ylais was allowed to retain land, for to take it back would make them no better than her.

stuff like that! both myths describe identical stretches of time and essentially the same scenario - of the divinitians arriving and slowly bringing more of their culture into the peninsula until suddenly the Stolisi (and southerners on the whole) rebelled. both are pretty idealistic - while Kaisa specifically was fairly gracious, many of her soldiers wrought blood and fire across Divinice, slaying innocents who stood between them and Divinitian soldiers. While Celese did indeed brook piece, she did so in a panic, in fear, and made many great concessions. she won no battle. she begged for mercy, and it was granted, but it was no victory. the divinitians didnt bring wondrous things to share with the stolisi, they brought it to SELL to the stolisi. they were merchants! they sold to them, stole from them, etc.

theres clearly a bias on my part to see the Stolisi as the lesser of two evils, but each side sees their own as the Best. right?

the truth of the matter is that Ylais and Kysro were complacent. both of them only have minimal control over the actual goings on of their people, and can only steer them in the right directions via Oracles and prophecy.
